2017


  1. Jyothish finished his Ph.D. and defended the thesis successfully in Dec. 2017.

  2. Naiwrit, Sagar and Jemmis attended the Theoretical Chemistry Conference WATOC 2017 held in Munich, Germany and presented posters.

  3. Prof. Jemmis superannuated on July 2017 and continues research and teaching as Hon. Professor in the IPC Dept. The superannuation function is celebrated with a symposium entitled "Recent Advances in Chemistry (RAC-2017)" July 2017.

  4. Prof. Jemmis is elected as a member of the international advisory board of IME-BORON, a triennial international conference on Boron Chemistry, Oct. 2017.

  5. Jemmis went for the ACS National meeting in Aug 2017 and participated in the conference honoring Professor Hoffmann on his 80th Birthday. Priya came from Cornell for the conference. Priya and him ran into an IISERTVM student of the second batch, Sharanya who is doing PhD of Pennstate

2016


  1. An international conference Computational Modeling of Molecules and Materials (CM3-2016) was organized at Nainital in October 2016. Naiwrit and Sagar have been awarded the best poster prize there. Hindu

  2. Prof. Jemmis received the Linus Pauling Lecture Award from the Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. Congratulations, Prof. Jemmis, Oct. 2016.

  3. Prof. Jemmis received the P. C. Ray Memorial Award of the Indian Science Congress Association from the Prime Minister in the ISC Mysore, January 2016.

  4. Subhendu finished his first post-doc in the group of Prof. Dr. Johannes Kastner at the University of Stuttgart Germany and moved to Prof. Arieh Warshel group in the University of Southern California for his second post-doc.

  5. Naiwrit attended Euroboron 7 conference held in Suzdal, Russia.

  6. Sagar is awarded Gold medal during the Convocation, June 2016, for the best performance in his Int. Ph.D. course-work.

  7. Vidya finished her Ph.D. in the year of 2016 and joined as a post-doctoral fellow at University of KwaZulu-Natal.

  8. C. P. Priyakumari finished her Ph.D. in the year of 2016 and joined the group of Prof. Roald Hoffmann at Cornell University.

  9. Prof. Jemmis has received the 2016 Fukui Medal, an award given by the Asia-Pacific Association of Theoretical and Computational Chemists (APATCC), Jan. 2016.

  6. Prof. Jemmis has received the Swadeshi Sasthra Puraskaram award 2014 of the Swadeshi Science Movement, the Kerala wing of Vignana Bharati, Nov. 2014.

  7. Usharani has joined as a woman scientist at CFTRI Mysore.

  8. Subhendu joined the group of Prof. Dr. Johannes Kastner at the University of Stuttgart as a Post-doctoral fellow.

  9. Prof. Jemmis has received the Padma Shri award in Science and Engineering, 26th Jan. 2014.

  11. Dibyendu has been selected for PBC fellowship, 2014. He is presently working as post doctoral fellow in Prof. Sason Shaik's group at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

  12. Subhendu defended the thesis successfully on 23rd November, 2013

  13. Prof. Martin Karplus, Prof. Michael Levitt and Prof. Arieh Warshel received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the year 2013. Dr. Pankaz Sarma was a PDF (2008-2012) with Prof. Arieh Warshel.

  14. Dibyendu defended the thesis successfully on 20th September, 2013 and recently received the First prize of the Eli Lilly Asia Outstanding Thesis Award 2013.

  15. Hari Krishna finished his Ph.D. in the year 2013. He got married recently and joined the group of Prof. Patrick Sit at the City University of Hong Kong as a Post-doctoral fellow.

  16. Susmita received the Inspire Fellowship for Women Scientist. She is doing all this while taking care of the baby along with Param at NIT Calicut.

  17. Prasad has joined as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Chemistry of IIT Kanpur in June, 2013. He finished his Ph. D. in the year 2009 and received the Eli Lilly best thesis award for the same year.

  18. Subhendu Roy has been selected to participate in the 63rd meeting of Nobel Laureates in 2013 in Lindau, Germany. During the meeting he has a rare opportunity to interact with many eminent scientists from around the world. The most memorable one,according to him was to have a face-to-face interaction with Prof. Richard R. Schrock, MIT,(Photo) who was awarded the 2005 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the development of metathesis methods in organic synthesis.

  19. Jorly has completed his PDF at Emory and University of Virginia and has joined as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Chemistry of MG University, Kottayam in the year 2012.

  20. Bishwarup Pathak has joined as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Chemistry of IIT Indore in the year 2012. He completed his Ph.D. in the year 2007.

  21. Prof. G. N. Sastry received the Shanthi Swarup Bhatnagar Prize in Chemical Science for the year 2011.

  22. Dibyendu Mallick has gone to the University of Santiago, Spain to participate in the "2011 World Association of Theoretical and Computational Chemists (WATOC)" conference.

  23. Subhendu Roy has gone to the Center for Computational Quantum Chemistry (CCQC) at the University of Georgia, USA to participate in the "2011 Summer School Program".

  24. Jayasree has joined as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Chemistry of Kerala University in the year 2011.

  25. Parameswaran has joined as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Chemistry of NIT Calicut in the year 2010

  26. Annop has joined as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Chemistry of IIT Kharagpur in the year 2010

  27. Shameema finished her Ph.D. in year 2010. She is presently working as post doctoral fellow in Prof. Christopher Hadad's group at Ohio State University.


2010-2000


  1. Bharatam V. Prasad,former member of the group, was awarded the Bronze Medal of the Chemical Research Society of India for the year of 2007. Professor Prasad is at NIPER, Punjab.

  2. Biswarup Pathak has submitted his thesis at University of Hyderabad, on saturday July 21st 2007.

  3. Param has been selected for the Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship. He defended the thesis at University of Hyderabad. Prof Durga Parasad and the Dean along with Prof Tembe conducted the exam.

  4. Pankaz recently visited us from California and presented a Seminar in the Molecular Biophysics Unit of IISc in 2007.

  5. Dr. Narahari Sastry, IICT, Hyderabad, has been selected for the Swarna Jayanti Fellowship of the DST, 2006.

  6. Prof. Jemmis has been given the " The Prof. T. Navaneeth Rao National Best Teacher Award" in Chemistry-2006, instituted by the Andhra Pradesh Academy of Sciences in association with AVRA Research Foundation and IICT.

  7. Prof. Jemmis has been selected for the J.C. Bose National Fellowship, instituted by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), India in 2006.

  8. Anoop defended the thesis successfully (Prof S. R. Gadre was the external examiner) and also obtained an offer from the MPI in Muelheim-Ruhr for a PDF. He got married recently and left for Germany to join with Prof. Wlater Thiel.

  9. Dr. M. M. Balakrishnarajan and Dr. Pancharatna returned from Cornell. They have a baby girl. Balu has a teaching position at the Pondicherry Central University. Pancharatna had gone to Cornell before defending the thesis. We had a thesis defence when the whole family came. Alice baby-sitted during the examination.

  10. Jayasree defended the thesis, got married and the husband and wife team is now at Berkeley.

  11. Dr. Jemmis recieved the Third World Academy Prize in Chemistry for the year 2003 from Third World Academy of Sciences

  12. The Andhra Pradesh Council of Science and Technology presented the AP Scientist Aaward 2003 to Dr. Jemmis on the Science Day, Feb 28 , 2003.

  13. Pancharatna has been selected as one of the participants to represent India in the meeting of Nobel Laureates and Students in Germany (Lindau), this July. Interestingly, Mr. Priyakumar, who is a student of Dr. Narahari Sastry, who in turn obtained PhD from the group, is also a member of this Indian Team.

  14. Pankaz Kumar Sharma came back to UH for PhD viva-voce which was conducted on April 15, 2002. Professor B. L. Tembe, IIT Bombay was the external examiner. Dr Sharma will be getting back to Jerusalem shortly to continue his PDF with Prof Sason Shaik. Even before Ashwini can finish his thesis, the University of Dibrugarh has offered a job to him which he accepted. He has joined the University as a lecturer and promises to get back to finish the thesis during holidays.
